However, the site traffic percent assignment was modified for
this analysis to account for the shifted site driveway and reconfiguration of Ben Johnston Road.
Site trip distribution and percent assignment used in this analysis are shown on Figures 1–3.
Figures 4–6 show the Phase 1 peak volumes at the study intersections, while Figures 7–9 show
the full build-out (Phase 1 + Phase 2) peak volumes at the study intersections.
While only three study intersections are impacted by the proposed site driveway relocation, all
study intersections are shown on the volume figures for reference.
Capacity Analysis
Capacity analyses were performed using Synchro and SimTraffic Version 10 software. It should
be noted that this analysis intentionally assumes signal cycle lengths that are longer than
necessary as a means of modeling worst-case queues for storage length determinations. As a
result, actual delays and queues are expected to be better than presented in this analysis. Table
1 summarizes intersection operations for the projected build-out traffic condition at the impacted
study intersections only.
Table 1
Level-of-Service Summary
Condition AM Peak Hour
LOS (Delay)
PM Peak Hour
LOS (Delay)
Saturday Peak Hour
LOS (Delay)
US-70/I-40 Connector & I-40 EB Ramps (Signalized by Project)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 1 C (34.6) D (35.8) D (47.9)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 2 C (28.7) C (22.4) C (20.5)
US-70/I-40 Connector & I-40 WB Ramps (Signalized by Project)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 1 B (15.2) C (23.4) C (22.4)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 2 B (13.9) C (23.0) B (19.9)
US-70/I-40 Connector & Ben Johnston Road (Unsignalized, Convert to RI/RO by Project)*
Build-out Traffic – Phase 1 WB – A (6.3) WB – B (11.7) WB – B (11.2)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 2 WB – A (3.9) WB – A (9.4) WB – A (7.2)
US-70/I-40 Connector & Site Driveway (Signalized by Project)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 1 B (15.3) B (14.6) B (12.5)
Build-out Traffic – Phase 2 B (14.4) B (15.5) B (15.4)

* Note: HCM methodology does not report an overall level of service for the unsignalized intersections.
