Buc-ee’s Phase 2 – Efland, NC

21

6.4 Mt. Willing Road – I-40 EB Ramps

Analyses indicate that the unsignalized Mt. Willing Road – I-40 EB Ramps intersection currently
operates with short delays on the minor street approach (I-40 EB Ramp). With the addition of
background and site traffic, the minor street approach is expected to operate with moderate delays
in the AM peak hour and short delays in the PM peak hour. Note that it is typical for the stop-
controlled approach with a major street to experience long delays while the major street
experiences little or no delay. Furthermore, in the highest volume peak hour site traffic is
expected to account for 6% of build-out intersection traffic volumes. SimTraffic simulations
indicate that maximum queues on the eastbound approach are expected to be less than 140 feet.

No improvements are recommended at this intersection to accommodate site traffic.

Table 6.4 summarizes the operation of the intersection for the existing (2020) and projected
(2023) background and build-out traffic conditions.

Table 6.4
Level-of-Service
Mt.
