Fair treatment means that <br />no group of people should bear a disproportionate share of the negative <br />environmental consequences resulting from industrial, governmental and commercial <br />operations or policies. <br />• GOAL: ENABLE FULL CIVIC PARTICIPATION <br />Ensure that Orange County residents are able to engage government through voting <br />and volunteering by eliminating disparities in participation and barriers to <br />participation. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The following Orange County Environmental <br />Responsibility Goal impact is applicable to this item: <br />• CLEAN OR AVOIDED TRANSPORTATION <br />Implement programs that monitor and improve local and regional air quality by 1) <br />promoting public transportation options, 2) decreasing dependence on single- <br />occupancy vehicles, and 3) otherwise minimizing the need for travel. <br /> <br />County Capital Project – Veterans Memorial <br /> <br />2. At its September 1, 2020 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved a <br />budget up to $137,542 for the design and construction of Phase II of the Veterans <br />Memorial project at the Southern Campus in Chapel Hill. A portion of the funding <br />($30,000) was from County matching challenge funds budgeted in the General Fund, <br />both in fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19.
