Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />August 8, 1960 <br />133 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, August 8th, in the assembly room <br />of the Board of Eiucation at 2 otclock p.m. in special session. <br />Members preseutt Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioner Donald McDade, Clarence Jones, <br />Henry Walker and Donald Stanford. <br />Embers absents None <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Superior Court, requested the Board to set a pay scale for the person he <br />hopes to employ as a Deputy Clerk of Superior Court. In the past he had not had a Deputy Clark <br />in his office. He requested that the Board allow him additional funds so he could eliminate <br />the position of secretary in his office and create in it's place the position of a Deputy Clerk <br />of Superior Court. <br />It was moved and passed that a position of Deputy Clerk of Superior Court be created in the <br />office of the Clerk of Superior Court, and that this position be classified in a pay grade three (3) <br />of the job classification plan. A motion was passed that the position of secretary in pay class <br />2 formerly held by Mrs. Bobby Clayton be eliminated. <br />A committee to be composed of E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court; Betty June Hayes, Register of <br />Deeds; C. D. Knight, Sheriff; a= A. H. Graham, County Attorney and Clarence Jones, Commissioner; <br />was appointed to investigate the County fee bill of the respective offices. <br />The Chairman than brought to the attention of the Board a letter he had received from the <br />Chapel Hill Publishing Company concerning the policy followed by the County in placing the Tax Lien <br />Sale advertisement for publication. The Accountant and Tax Collector were questioned concerning <br />their action in this matter, and the past policy of the county was reviewed as far as this <br />publication was concerned. <br />Commissioner Jones then moved we leave the present agreement for the publication of the 1959 <br />Lien Sale as it now stands. Commissioner Stanford gave a second to this motion and when <br />rman Hobbs called for a vote there were h ayes and 0 nays. Tae motion was then declared <br />Commissioner Jones then moved that we leave in the County Accountants hands the problem of <br />'working out an acceptable method of awarding this publication contract. Commissioner McDade gave a <br />second to this motion and when Chairman Hobbs called for a vote there were h ayes and 0 nays.
