Meeting Summary
Date: March 4, 2020
Place: Environment and Agricultural Center Conference Room
PRESENT: Haywood Rhodes; John Greeson; Cecily Kritz; Robert Robinson; Robert Smith; Tim
Tippin; Gina Reyman
ABSENT: Michael Zelek
STAFF: Lynn Hecht
I. Call to Order: Roll was called.
II. Additions or Changes to Agenda, Meeting Summary: no comments on the February
notes. No additions to the agenda.
III. Report of the Chair: Membership/Vacancies: There is one vacancy and one application
for the vacancy in Cheeks Township. Robinson moved to invite Mikki Fleming to fill the
Cheeks Township, Greeson seconded the motion. All voted in favor. Rhodes updated
the group on a site visit with staff and disc golf builders at the Dogwood Disc Golf
Course (Southern Park) in Chapel Hill, for all to see another version of how a course can
be built. In April, Rhodes reminded the Council that it will be time to vote for officers.
IV. New Business
a. A certificate of appreciation was given for Rob Robinson for his two plus terms with
six years and three months of service to the board. Robinson says he'll stay
involved with the Friends of Parks and Recreation.
b. Outside Agency Scoring. Bridge II Sports, Swim for Charlie and Triangle Bikeworks
were discussed and scored. Hecht tallied the scores to be turned in to the Finance
Department.
The Group looked at the Bridge II Sports first. It was presenting a new program and
is a past recipient, so the group was familiar with the agency. Their total score was
79. Notes were added to this and each applicant to address our concerns. The group
scored the Swim for Charlie applicant next. It is a new group and program, so no
points could be offered for section II, which gave a lower score of 55. Triangle
Bikeworks was the last applicant scored. They received 91 points for their program.
Although it cannot make a recommendation on financials, the Council indicated a
wish for all applicants to receive county funding.
V. Old Business
a. Recreation Division Update - a written report was presented to the group. The
information was looked over and discussed. Robinson is concerned about facility use
and the lack of gym space. There were no questions for Recreation from the board.
VI.
