Ms. Penny Rich, Chair
Orange County Commissioners
Whitted Bldg. Rm-220
Hillsborough, NC 27278, NC 27278

24 January 2020

Dear Penny,

January 25th marked the first day of the adoption process to find welcoming homes for
the Bulldogs and Mastiffs recently seized from a commercial breeding situation here in
Chapel Hill. The care and concern shown by our community for these dogs resulted in
our being able to hold a special adoption drawing. Continuing in our commitment to
provide education for animal wellbeing, as part of this adoption process, we offered
information to owner / applicants about potential Bulldog breed health concerns.

As we send these lucky dogs on their way to their new lives, The Orange County Animal
Services Advisory Board and the staff of Orange County Animal Services sends most
sincere thanks to Commissioners, county staff , Animal Services volunteers and
community members who helped to make this rescue such an outstanding success.

Because of the help and support of all, we were not only able to rescue, and provide safe
shelter for these dogs, we were also able to see that their medical needs were met. We
would like to offer special appreciation to Bonnie Hammersley, County Manager and
Travis Myren, Deputy County Manager; staff attorneys in the office of the County
Attorney, Assistant District Attorney Anna Orr, and Sheriff Charles S. Blackwood, and to
their staff who worked along with us to help create this happy outcome.

Best wishes to all,

Amanda Schwoerke, JD, Chair Bob Marotto, Director
Animal Services Advisory Board Orange County Animal Services
