MINUTES - Draft
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
May 27, 2020
rural part of the county. That may be due to lack of testing. The African-American and
Latinx communities there may not have transportation to get tested. We're focusing on
targeting the underserved populations. There's a meeting on tomorrow to iron out the
testing event details including testing criteria.
• We're still doing contact tracing. The contact tracers consist of county staff and school
nurses. We continue to build and train more in case of a spike in cases and are still
looking to add more bilingual staff to assist with contact tracing.
• The Medical Director, Erica Pettigrew, continues to have weekly calls with congregate
facilities.
• The Strike Team has begun to focus on educating farmers and the migrant workers.
There was a dashboard titled "Board of Health Dashboard — OCHD COVID-19 Response"
displayed. Ms. Stewart will email it to the Board members. It will also be posted on the OCHD
website. This dashboard was created by Rebecca Crawford to show how the OCHD clinics
responses have been affected by COVID-19. Below are some highlights.
• Patients are still being seen at both clinics. The SHSC Clinic has been deemed the
"well clinic" where visits such as primary care and family planning occur. The Whitted
Clinic has been deemed the "sick clinic" for those symptomatic patients and those
unable to do telehealth appointments.
• The Dental Clinic is missing from the dashboard as we were unable to pull data from
EagleSoft. They continue to only see emergency visits at this time.
• In regards to data on communications,
o The Nurseline is still receiving calls about coronavirus.
o The COVID-19 information line has seen a drastic decrease in call volume;
however, emails are still being received by the COVID-19 email link.
o We have a strong social media presence thanks to Kristin Prelipp and the Joint
Information Center (JIC). They are doing a great job.
o Our Immigration and Refugee Health program has been extremely beneficial in
assisting DSS and other Human Service agencies in serving our immigrant and
refugee populations.
E. Media Items
Kristin Prelipp, Communications Manager, mentioned that all of the articles were COVID-19
related. Ms. Prelipp also briefly spoke about the social media campaign that consists of taking a
selfie wearing a face covering along with a quote of why you do or why you don't or are unable
to wear a face covering. It's aimed at trying to normalize face coverings so that people can
wear them in public and feel confident. She invited anyone that wants to participate to email her
a selfie wearing a face covering including a quote of why you wear one or if you're unable to, a
quote stating why not.
Media items were in the packet which focused on Orange County's events and our
involvement in various efforts.
Public Comment
There was a public comment in the chat box left by public attendee, Jennifer Miller. It asked
"Do you have a formal stance on considering graduation to be limited to 25 people outside at
once on the entire campus of OHS?".
S:\Managers Working Files\BOH\Agenda &Abstracts\2020 Agenda &Abstracts/
May Page 6
