MINUTES - Draft <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> May 27, 2020 <br /> After discussion was held, the Board voted via Menti.com on the three priorities from the ten <br /> community concerns. The chosen three priorities were Access to Healthcare, Social Justice <br /> and Substance Abuse. BOH member, Bruce Baldwin, had abstained from voting. <br /> The BOH members had questions that were addressed by Ms. Scurry and Ms. Stewart. <br /> V. Reports and Discussion with Possible Action Action Items (Non Consent) <br /> A. BOH Vice-Chair Discussion <br /> Jessica Frega, Chair, informed the Board that Jennifer Deyo, Vice-Chair and Pharmacy <br /> representative, moved to Alamance County; thus, she's no longer a member of the Board. <br /> There was a request for volunteers to serve on a small committee to interview candidates to fill <br /> the Pharmacy representative seat. Timothy Smith and Lee Pickett will serve on that committee <br /> alongside Ms. Frega. Ms. Frega also asked the Board to send her nominations, in the next <br /> couple of weeks, for the Vice-chair position which will be voted on at the June Board meeting. <br /> Nominees should be aware that they are expected to serve the remainder of this year, next year <br /> and the year after. <br /> Ms. Frega also announced that the BOCC reappointed Lee Pickett as the Veterinarian <br /> representative and approved the recommendation to appoint Shielda Rogers to fulfill the <br /> Nursing representative seat. She will be participating in the August Board meeting. <br /> B. Health Director Report <br /> In addition to mentioning upcoming events, Ms. Stewart also reiterated the items below from her <br /> report. <br /> • Dr. Michael Day, Dental Clinic Director, is retiring this Friday. He has worked for many <br /> years as a dentist in many counties in North Carolina and out of state as well. He will be <br /> relocating to Florida to join his family that travelled ahead of him. Ms. Stewart <br /> encouraged the Board to send him well wishes and will provide Dr. Day's email address <br /> to the Board. <br /> • Ms. Stewart along with the Deputy County Manager and AMS Director, Travis Myren <br /> and Steve Arndt, respectively, had two meetings at the courthouse in Hillsborough to <br /> discuss the safe re-opening of courts on June 1st during the COVID-19 pandemic. <br /> • Ms. Stewart and Environmental Health Director, Victoria Hudson, spoke to the Chapel <br /> Hill Chamber on "Safe Operation, Regulation and Health Inspections" during COVID-19. <br /> • Ms. Stewart continues to participate in weekly Multi-Agency Coordinating Policy Group <br /> (MAC/Policy Group) calls to give updates on COVID-19 and discuss potential policy <br /> needs. <br /> • OCHD will partner with OWASA and NC State to participate in a study to test <br /> wastewater samples for COVID-19. <br /> C. Mask/Cloth Facial Covering <br /> Chair, Jessica Frega, led the discussion on mask/cloth facial coverings. Aparna Jonnal, Liska <br /> Lackey and Ms. Frega received an email from a member of the public concerned that <br /> masks/face coverings are not mandated in Orange County as they are in Durham County.
