groundwater may contain hazardous materials; <br /> e. Depth(s)to the top(s) and bottom(s) of the screen(s); and <br /> f. The well identification number or name assigned by the well owner. <br /> 17. Each monitoring well shall be developed such that the level of turbidity or <br /> settleable solids does not preclude accurate chemical analyses of any fluid <br /> samples collected or adversely affect the operation of any pumps or pumping <br /> equipment. <br /> C. GEOTHERMAL WELLS <br /> 1. Geothermal well construction standards, installation standards and contractor <br /> certification procedures adopted by the International Ground Source Heat <br /> Pump Association (IGSHPA) are hereby enacted by reference. A copy of the <br /> IGSHPA standards and procedures is available at the Environmental Health <br /> Division of the Orange County Health Department. <br /> 2. The well shall be constructed in such a manner that surface water or <br /> contaminants from the land surface cannot migrate along the borehole annulus <br /> either during or after construction. Prior to removing equipment from the site, <br /> the borehole shall be protected to prevent the introduction of contaminants <br /> into the well. <br /> 3. Geothermal wells shall meet the horizontal setback standards as specified in <br /> Section II (A) of these Rules. <br /> 4. For closed loop geothermal wells that are fully grouted with an approved <br /> grout, the following setbacks shall apply as measured from any portion of <br /> the borehole to the potential source of contamination: <br /> Building perimeters, including any attached structures 15 ft. <br /> Septic tanks and drainfields, including drainfield repair <br /> areas 50 ft. <br /> Sewer lines constructed to water main standards 15 ft. <br /> Sewer lines not constructed to water main standards 25 ft. <br /> Land-based or subsurface waste storage or disposal systems 50 ft. <br /> 5. Geothermal wells shall meet construction specifications in Section II of <br /> these Rules, however closed loop geothermal heat exchange injection wells <br /> constructed and completed according to International Ground Source Heat <br /> Pump Association or equivalent standards shall not be required to be <br /> constructed with casing. <br /> 6. Only additives which are deemed not to adversely affect human health by <br /> the Department shall be used. <br /> 7. Closed loop tubing used in Direct Expansion closed loop wells shall <br /> consist of refrigeration-grade copper pipe as defined/described in ASTM <br /> B280-08, which is hereby incorporated by reference, including subsequent <br /> amendments and editions. <br /> 34 <br />
