SECTION II - STANDARDS OF CONSTRUCTION FOR WATER <br /> SUPPLY WELLS <br /> A. LOCATION. The permitting or construction of a well shall comply with the <br /> following setbacks: <br /> 1. A water supply well shall not be located in any area where surface water or <br /> runoff will accumulate around the well due to depressions, drainage ways, and <br /> other landscapes that will concentrate water around the well. <br /> 2. The minimum horizontal separation between a water supply well and potential <br /> sources of groundwater contamination shall be as follows unless otherwise <br /> specified: <br /> SFD septic tank,pump tank, drainfield, repair area (S.L. 2018-65) 50 ft. <br /> SFD septic tank,pump tank, drainfield, repair area in sa rolite 100 ft. <br /> Other subsurface ground absorption waste disposal system 100 ft. <br /> Biosolids application or wastewater-irrigation sites 100 ft. <br /> Industrial or municipal sewage or liquid-waste collection or <br /> sewer main, constructed to water main standards 50 ft. <br /> Water-tight sewer lateral 25 ft. <br /> Cesspools and privies. 100 ft. <br /> Unapproved wells 50 ft. <br /> Coal ash landfills or impoundments 200 ft. <br /> Fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide or other chemical storage areas 100 ft. <br /> Non-hazardous waste storage, treatment or disposal lagoons 100 ft. <br /> Sanitary landfills, solid waste landfill facilities, incinerators, <br /> construction and demolition (C&D) landfills and other disposal 500. ft <br /> sites except Land Clearing and Inert Debris landfills <br /> Land Clearing and Inert Debris LCID landfills 100 ft. <br /> Animal barns including coops, animal feedlots, or manure or litter 100 ft. <br /> Iles <br /> Building* foundations subject to termite treatment that need a <br /> building permit, such as garages, patios, or decks, regardless 50 ft. <br /> of foundation construction type <br /> Surface water bodies, such as ponds, lakes and reservoirs 50 ft. <br /> Surface water such as brooks, creeks, streams, rivers, 25 ft. <br /> Chemical or petroleum underground storage tank systems <br /> regulated under 15A NCAC 02N and underground fuel oil <br /> storage tanks (except compressed gas) <br /> (i) with secondary containment 50 ft. <br /> (ii) without secondary containment 100 ft. <br /> Above ground or underground storage tanks containing <br /> petroleum fuels used for heating equipment, boilers or 50 ft. <br /> furnaces with the exception of tanks used solely for storage <br /> of propane, natural gas, or LP <br /> All other petroleum or chemical storage tanks stems 100 ft. <br /> Gravesites 50 ft. <br /> All other potential sources of groundwater contamination 50 ft. <br /> Property lines where available 40 ft. <br /> 17 <br />
