As specified in 15A NCAC 2L.0202 (b) (3), where naturally occurring substances <br /> exceed the established standard, the standard shall be the naturally occurring <br /> concentration as determined by the Division. <br /> 21. "Designed capacity"shall mean that capacity that is equal to the yield that is <br /> specified by the well owner or his agent prior to construction of the well. <br /> 22. "Development" means the process of properly casing and lining of the well and of <br /> removing all drill cuttings,formation material, sediment, or other settled or suspended <br /> debris from a new or existing well. <br /> 23. "'Disinfect"or"Disinfection" means protecting against any contamination from comment[VH14]:NEW ocHD DEFINITION; <br /> equipment, material, or surface drainage introduced during well construction or STAFF WANTED CLARIFICATION <br /> repair, immediately following their construction or repair. Prior to final chemical <br /> disinfection, contractors must remove foreign substances, such as grease, soil, <br /> sediment,joint dope, and scum from the well and near the wellhead. Pump installers <br /> must clean all pump parts before placing them into the well. The well must be <br /> disinfect with a chlorine compound at a concentration of no less than 100 mg/L(100 <br /> ppm)available. <br /> 24. "Division of Water Resources)"or"Division" means the North Carolina Division of <br /> Water Resources or its successor.The term also means the authorized <br /> representative of the Division. <br /> 25. "Domestic use" means water used for drinking, bathing, cooking,or other household <br /> purposes. <br /> 26. "Formation Material"means naturally occurring material generated during the drilling <br /> process that is composed of sands, silts, clays or fragments of rock and which is not <br /> in a dissolved state. <br /> 27. "GPM"and "GPD" mean gallons per minute and gallons per day, respectively. <br /> 28. "Grout"means a material approved in accordance with Rule .0107(e)of 15 NCAC <br /> 02C for use in sealing the annular space of a well or liner or for sealing a well during <br /> abandonment. <br /> 29. "Injection Well" means any excavation which is cored, bored, drilled,jetted, dug, or <br /> otherwise constructed,whose depth is greater than its largest surface dimension and <br /> which is used, or intended to be used,for the injection of fluids or solids into the <br /> subsurface or groundwater. <br /> 30. "Known source of release of contamination"(means a location where any of the .comment[VHls]:NEW STATE DEFINITION <br /> following activities, facilities, or conditions have been documented by the Department <br /> of Environmental Quality or the Orange County Health Department: <br /> a)Groundwater contamination incidents arising from agricultural operations, <br /> including application of agricultural chemicals pursuant to 15A NCAC 02L; <br /> b)Groundwater contamination associated with the construction or operation of <br /> injection, monitoring, and other wells subject to permitting under the Well <br />
