Resolution of Recognition for Judicial District 15-B Chief District Court Judge <br /> 10 Joseph Moody Buckner Upon His Retirement <br /> 11 The Board considered voting to adopt a resolution recognizing Judicial District 15-B <br /> 12 Chief District Court Judge Joseph Moody Buckner upon his retirement. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 BACKGROUND: <br /> 15 Judge Joseph M. Buckner was elected as a district court judge in 1994 and was re-elected by <br /> 16 the residents of Orange and Chatham counties six more times after his initial election. In 1996, <br /> 17 the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court appointed Judge Buckner as the Chief <br /> 18 District Court Judge in Orange and Chatham counties and he has served in that capacity since <br /> 19 that time. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Judge Buckner also previously served as President of the N.C. Conference of District Court <br /> 22 Judges and Chief District Court Judges as well as serving as a member of the N.C. Governor's <br /> 23 Crime Commission and the Commission on Juvenile Crime. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Judge Buckner has served the residents of Orange and Chatham County tirelessly and with <br /> 26 distinction for close to 30 years as a district court judge, and announced over the summer his <br /> 27 retirement. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 The following resolution was presented by BOCC Chair Penny Rich at Judge Buckner's <br /> 30 retirement event in late July 2020, and staff requests that the Board formally adopt the <br /> 31 resolution recognizing Judge Buckner for his service. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Chair Rich read the resolution: <br /> 34 <br /> 35 RES-2020-044 <br /> 36 <br /> 37 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 38 RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION FOR JUDICIAL DISTRICT 15-B <br /> 39 CHIEF DISTRICT COURT JUDGE JOSEPH MOODY BUCKNER <br /> 40 UPON HIS RETIREMENT <br /> 41 <br /> 42 WHEREAS, Judge Joseph M. Buckner has served as the Chief District Court Judge in Orange <br /> 43 and Chatham counties since 1996, when he was appointed by the Chief Justice of the North <br /> 44 Carolina Supreme Court; and <br /> 45 <br /> 46 WHEREAS, Judge Buckner has served as a district court judge since his election in 1994 and <br /> 47 has been re-elected by the residents of Orange and Chatham counties six more times; and <br /> 48 <br /> 49 WHERAS, Judge Buckner previously served as the President of the N.C. <br /> 50 Conference of District Court Judges and Chief District Court Judges as well serving as a <br /> 51 member of the N.C.
