1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: October 6, 2020 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-f <br /> SUBJECT: Budget Amendment for the County Funding of 800 Hot Spots to Orange County <br /> Schools <br /> DEPARTMENT: Finance and Administrative <br /> Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Gary Donaldson, (919) 245-2453 <br /> Paul Laughton, (919) 245-2152 <br /> PURPOSE: Request approval for a Budget Amendment in the amount of $120,000 to fund 800 <br /> Hots Spots for Orange County Schools (OCS) at a cost of $150 each. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Schools Board of Education elected to open schools under <br /> the Governor's Plan C, full remote instruction on August 17, 2020. This budget amendment will <br /> allow OCS to fulfill its remote instruction requirement and meet outstanding student requests for <br /> OCS families. <br /> This Budget Amendment would transfer $120,000 from the Emergency Housing Assistance <br /> Round 2 CARES allocation. The County Housing and Community Development Department <br /> received notice of an additional CARES Act CDBG-CV funds in the amount of $937,803 which <br /> now allows the County to support OCS. <br /> The County will execute a separate grant agreement with Orange County Schools. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Budget Amendment transfers $120,000 from the Housing <br /> Department's Emergency Housing Assistance Program to fund the Orange County Schools <br /> remote instruction requirements. A separate Budget Amendment for the additional Housing <br /> CDBG-CV funds will be on a subsequent Abstract. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br />
