RES - 2020 - 056 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> Resolution of Support for Reclassifying a Segment of the Eno River for Water Supply in <br /> Durham County , North Carolina <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Durham owns Teer Quarry located at 5090 Denfield Road in Durham County , <br /> adjacent to the Eno River ; and <br /> WHEREAS , Teer Quarry is critical for meeting the City ' s emergency water supply needs and will <br /> improve the City ' s water system reliability ; and <br /> WHEREAS , Orange County has an allocation of water supply storage in Jordan Lake with the <br /> expectation that the City of Durham ' s water supply system will serve a portion of Orange County with <br /> water from Orange County ' s Jordan Lake water supply allocation ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Durham is at the center of an interconnected , regional water supply network <br /> that includes the Town of Hillsborough , the Orange Water and Sewer Authority , Chatham County , the <br /> City of Raleigh , and the Town of Cary ; and <br /> WHEREAS , improving the City of Durham ' s water supply reliability improves water supply reliability <br /> for the Town of Hillsborough , the Orange Water and Sewer Authority , and Orange County ; and <br /> WHEREAS , use of Teer Quarry as a water supply requires filling it from a new intake in the Eno <br /> River ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the North Carolina General Statutes require that the segment of the Eno River in which <br /> the new intake is located and its watershed , as well as Teer Quarry , be reclassified to protect the <br /> quality of the water ; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , we , the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby resolves to support the <br /> reclassification of the lands and waters identified by the North Carolina Department of Environmental <br /> Quality as being within the new Eno River intake watershed to WS - IV NSW with a Critical Area ( CA ) <br /> and Protected Area ( PA) , and Teer Quarry to WSIV NSW CA . <br /> This 15th day of September , 2020 . <br /> Attest . <br /> F <br /> David Hunt , Deputy Clerk to the Board nny Rich , C air <br /> range County Board of Commissioners <br /> PA <br /> ^,y , ' adt <br /> cE: ; <br />
