ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT
306F REVERE ROAD
HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27278
.~~• ~ ~.
~~
n
•~d`'•
'~~ e
March 28, 2001
State Clearinghouse
North Carolina Department of Administration
1302 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-1302
Attention: Ms. Chrys Baggett
Re: Environmental Assessment
The Olive Branch Ina
Dear Ms. Baggett:
The Orange County Planning Department has received an application for a Class A Special Use Permit to
allow the property at 7015 NC 57, (TMBL # 1.15..8), to be used as a bed and breakfast. The Orange
County Zoning Ordinance classifies bed and breakfast uses as S54 Historic Sites Non-Residential-Mixed
Use for all of our main residential zoning districts-Rural Buffer (RB), Agricultural Residential (AR),
and Rural Residential (R1). One of the County's requirements for this use is that the structure is
recognized by the state as a historic site. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
on August 8, 1998, as the Dr. Arch Jordan House.
The Zoning Ordinance also requires the applicant to complete an Environmental Assessment for the
project to ensure that permit will not compromise the historic character of the property. The applicant,
Ms. Elizabeth P. Davidson, has been in contact with the Restoration Branch of Archives and History
during the planning stages of this project. Ms. Davidson will be required to plant some trees along the
property boundaries to meet our screening requirements. However, with the exception of a small gravel
parking area, no additional work to the house and property is anticipated, as part of this project.
I have attached a copy of the application, Environmental Assessment, and sixteen copies of the site plan.
Please distribute this to various state agencies as appropriate. If you have any questions or need
additional information, please call me at (919) 245-2583.
Sincerely,
Christina R. Moon
Land Use/Preservation Planner
enc.
cc: File
