Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Greene said she will forward a PowerPoint presentation to the Board, <br /> from Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG), made by an RDU representative. <br /> Commissioner Bedford said the Partnership for Young Children will instruct daycares to <br /> openly carefully and safely. <br /> Commissioner Marcoplos said he had no comments. <br /> Commissioner Price petitioned that public transit riders be required to wear masks, <br /> since a large majority of the drivers are African-American, who are a vulnerable population. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin said he heard that UNC was no longer capturing methane gas <br /> from the old landfill site. He asked if the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) could get <br /> more information about that, and, if this is no longer happening, what are the ramifications <br /> ecologically and financially. <br /> Commissioner McKee said he had no comments. <br /> Chair Rich said there was a Covid meeting this morning, and there is an uptick in cases <br /> in Orange County, but no more deaths. She said this past weekend the health department <br /> heard there was a trend, and therefore they are out tracking this. <br /> Chair Rich said the County is slowly moving into a recovery plan, and a consultant is <br /> being hired for this process. <br /> Commissioner McKee asked if the increase in cases is due to an increase in testing. <br /> Chair Rich said she has not read the meeting notes yet, and she will get that <br /> information and let him know as soon as possible. <br /> 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/Special Presentations <br /> Item 4a-ADDED TO AGENDA(no abstract) <br /> Commissioner Price said the moment of silence is for those who have died due to racial <br /> violence. <br /> Moment of Silence. <br /> Chair Rich said Annette Moore, Human Rights and Relations Director, wrote this <br /> resolution in the last day, and did not have time to write an abstract, but the resolution speaks <br /> for itself. <br /> Annette Moore said Martin Luther King, Jr. emphasized non-violent efforts towards racial <br /> equity, but said a failure to address racism is violence in and of itself. She said the plight of the <br /> black American has worsened in recent years, and riots are the voice of the unheard. She said <br /> social justice and progress are the absolute guarantee of riot prevention, and society must <br /> consider how it has failed, and how it can move forward. She said people need to consider their <br />
