1 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 Attachment 7 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 6 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 7 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 8 VIRTUAL SPECIAL MEETING <br /> 9 JULY 14, 2020 <br /> 10 7:00 p.m. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Virtual Special Meeting on Tuesday, <br /> 13 July 14, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Rich and Commissioners Jamezetta Bedford, <br /> 16 Mark Dorosin, Sally Greene, Mark Marcoplos, and Renee Price <br /> 17 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Earl McKee <br /> 18 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 19 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 20 Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 21 appropriately below) <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Chair Rich called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Due to current public health concerns, the Board of Commissioners conducted a Virtual Special <br /> 26 Meeting on July 14, 2020. Members of the Board of Commissioners participated in the meeting <br /> 27 remotely. As in prior meetings, members of the public were able to view and listen to the <br /> 28 meeting via live streaming video at orangecountync.gov/967/Meeting-Videos and on Orange <br /> 29 County Gov-TV on channels 1301 or 97.6 (Spectrum Cable). <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 1. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 35 Commissioner Bedford said she was accepted to take the Global Climate Reality <br /> 36 Training, and is looking forward to it. <br /> 37 Commissioner Greene said she had no comments. <br /> 38 Commissioner Marcoplos said he is concerned about UNC opening up and he is <br /> 39 wondering what the Board's role is in this, how to stay on top of UNC's plans, and how the <br /> 40 Board can affect these plans through its role in the County. <br /> 41 Commissioner Price petitioned that Orange County declare June 19t" as an official <br /> 42 holiday, and said she sent a draft of a proposed resolution that she will address at the <br /> 43 September 1st meeting. <br /> 44 Commissioner Dorosin said he thought last week's public forum went well. He said he <br /> 45 has heard a lot of good feedback from the community, and he looks forward to the follow up on <br /> 46 what the Board heard. He said he was sorry that Commissioner Price could not attend, but the <br /> 47 comments she sent were powerful. He said he is glad the Human Relations Commission <br /> 48 (HRC) is engaged, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools' Board of Education (CHCCS <br /> 49 BOE) will be discussing SROs at an upcoming meeting. <br />
