<br />silt loam.
<br />This soil association is used mainly as cropland. Some
<br />areas are used as woodland and pasture. Erosion and lov
<br />strength are the main limitations to use and management..
<br />This association has high potential for craps, for mos
<br />urban uses, and for use as woodland.
<br />6. Georgeville-Herndon-Tatum Association
<br />Gently sloping to moderately steep, well drained soil.
<br />that have a surface layer of silt loam and a subsoil o
<br />clay loam, silty clay loam, silty clay, and clay; o~
<br />uplands
<br />This association is on broad ridges and narrow side
<br />slopes. It makes up 15 percent of the caunty. It is 20 per-
<br />cent Georgeville soils, 20 percent Herndon soils, and 20
<br />percent Tatum soils. Soils of minor extent make pp 40
<br />percent of this association. These are mainly the Hiwas-
<br />see, Goldston, Chewacla, and Orange soils.
<br />The gently sloping and sloping Georgeville soils are

<br />The subsoil is mottled red clay loam and silty clay in the
<br />upper part and mottled red silty clay loam in the lower
<br />part.

<br />is mottled yellowish red, light gray, and yellowish brown
<br />silt loam.
<br />The sloping to moderately steep Tatum soils are well
<br />drained. The surface layer is strong brown silt loam. The
<br />subsoil is red silty clay in the upper part and red silty
<br />clay loam in the lower part. The underlying material is
<br />mottled red saprolite that crushes to loam.
<br />This association is used mainly as cropland and to a
<br />lesser extent as woodland and pasture. Slope, erosion
<br />hazard, low strength, and depth to rock are the main
<br />limitations to use and management.

<br />Gently Sloping to Strongly Sloping Soils on
<br />Uplands
<br />The soils in this group formed on the uplands in materi
<br />al that weathered from shale and sandstone. The associa
<br />Lion makes up 2 percent of the county. It is used mainly
<br />as woodland. Some areas are in crops and pasture.
<br />8. White Store-Creedmoor Association
<br />Gently sloping to strongly sloping, moderately wel~
<br />drained soils that have a surface layer of loam and fine
<br />sandy loam and a subsoil of clay loam, clay, silty clay
<br />silty clay loam, and sandy clay loam; on uplands
<br />This association is on broad ridges. It makes up 2 per
<br />cent of the county. It is 55 percent Whits Store soils, 1f
<br />percent Creedmoor soils, and 35 percent Altavista, Ap•
<br />piing, and Chewacla soils and Urban land.
<br />The gently sloping to strongly sloping White Store soil:
<br />are moderately well drained. The surface layer is yel•
<br />lowish brown loam. The subsoil is reddish brown clay
<br />loam in the upper part, mottled yellowish red clay, red
<br />dish brown clay, and mottled dark reddish brown silty
<br />clay in the middle part, and reddish brown silty clay loan
<br />in the lower part. The underlying layer is reddish browr
<br />saprolite that crushes to silt loam.
