Safety Functions of the Transit Director <br /> • In an internal emergency situation, the Transit Director will initiate Emergency Action <br /> Plan if deemed necessary and be the contact at the Disaster Operations Boardroom <br /> as well as: <br /> o Provide a means to inform staff of the emergency and provide updates. <br /> o Provide the news media with information release. <br /> o Provide personnel to assist Emergency Operations. <br /> o Provide agencies with vehicle layouts and/or blueprints of the affected area. <br /> • Once the external emergency action plan is activated, the Transit Director will <br /> o Act under the guidance of trained experts when available. <br /> o Organize the Emergency Action Plan. <br /> o Assess the situation and make appropriate decisions for passenger <br /> and employee safety as situation demands. <br /> o Be responsible for the notification of the "all clear'. <br /> o Provide information for media release. <br /> Safety Functions of Designated Safety Official(TeLeishia Holloway, Transit Administrator) <br /> The Supervisor or Lead Safety Officer is the individual who is directly responsible for <br /> implementing the System Safety Program. It is the basic responsibility of the supervisor to <br /> plan and conduct safe operations. It is also the duty and responsibility of each <br /> supervisor to fully orient and instruct all employees in safe practices and procedures. <br /> He or she is expected to be a member of the safety and Accident Review Committee and <br /> be in charge of collecting and disseminating safety data. The supervisor or Lead Safety <br /> Officer is specifically charged with the following responsibilities for the System Safety <br /> Program: <br /> • Have full knowledge of all standard and emergency operating procedures; <br /> • Perform safety audits of operations; <br /> • Ensure that employees make safety a primary concern when on the job; <br /> • Actively investigate all incidents and accidents; <br /> • Prohibit unsafe conduct and conditions; <br /> • Conduct safety meetings which are a vital part of safety atmosphere; <br /> • Listen and act upon any safety concerns raised by employees; <br /> • Report to management any safety concerns or possible hazards. <br /> Safety Coordinator Responsibility <br /> • Implement and administer the safety program. <br /> • Maintain records as necessary to comply with laws and objectives of the <br /> safety program. These records should include: <br /> • Copy of Report of Injury, Illness or Accident <br /> • Supervisor's Accident Investigation Reports <br /> • Required OSHA forms <br /> 941Page <br />
