Orange County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Meeting <br /> Friday , October 6 , 2017 ( 12 : 00noon — 2 : 00pm) <br /> Hillsborough Commons <br /> Hillsborough , NC <br /> Proposed Minutes <br /> Attendees : Meg McGurk, Sherita Cobb , Maren Hardin , Peggy Hamlett , Stephanie Jones , <br /> Bernard Miles , Sharron Hinton , Kysha Thompson , Penny Rich , Jay Bryan , Lee Barnes , <br /> Amanda Farris , Susan Worley , Pam Weiden , Kate Giduz , Tami Pfeifer , Val Hanson, Gayane <br /> Chambless , Georgia Gamcsik, Rebekah Rapoza ( * Members in Bold) <br /> Absent: Michelle Guarino , Tina Sykes , Dana Graves <br /> Excused: Carol McClelland , Donna King , Nick Allen <br /> Welcome <br /> The meeting opened with a welcome from Chair , Meg McGurk and introductions . <br /> Minutes Review and Approval <br /> The Council reviewed the minutes from August 2017 . Penny Rich motioned for minutes to be <br /> approved with one correction and was seconded by Peggy Hamlett . Motion carried unanimously . <br /> Agency Roundtable <br /> Volunteers for Youth .— Nicole Hunter is back at VFY working with the Community Service <br /> program again . Teen Court has served 8 and has a couple referrals pending . There will be an <br /> attorney training coming up October 14 and could use some volunteers ( ages 13 - 18 ) . <br /> Boomerang — Alternative to Suspension program has been slow up until this week . Year to date <br /> they have served 19 youth and have 9 there today . Continue to do the boys group at AL <br /> Stanback Middle School and have also been offering more afterschool activities . <br /> Dispute Settlement Center — They have been having a lot of problems getting referrals for the <br /> Family Table program and haven ' t been able to run the program since last winter . Currently <br /> only have one open referral from JCPC for the Restorative Justice program . <br /> Freedom House — FAN is currently working with 7 parents and has served 11 year to date . <br /> Approximately one -third of their clients are court involved . The program is finally starting to <br /> see the low numbers that the other programs have been reporting for a while now . They had a <br /> workshop in collaboration with NAMI — Parents and Teachers as Allies , how to work with <br /> schools when your child is suffering from a mental health condition . On October 21 they will be <br /> doing a workshop with Dispute Settlement Center — From Bystander to Up -Stander . Common <br /> Sense Parenting class has scheduled 6 classes but was only able to hold about half because they <br /> haven ' t been receiving the number of referrals that are needed to hold it . This month they are <br /> starting up a new Peer Parent Support Group that will be held the second Wednesday of the <br /> month at lunch time . <br /> DJJ Data — August : 0 distinct juveniles , 0 complaints , 0 approved for court, 0 juveniles diverted , <br /> 0 juveniles in detention, 1 juvenile in Wrenn House for 4 days , 1 juvenile on electronic <br /> monitoring for 21 days , and 0 juveniles committed to YDC . <br />
