i <br /> i <br /> Orange County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Meeting <br /> Friday, December 2, 2016 (12a00noon — 2e00pm) <br /> Southern Human Services Center <br /> Chapel Hill, NC <br /> Proposed Minutes <br /> Attendees : Meg McGurk, Peggy Hamlett, Bernard Miles, Carol McClelland, Conrad <br /> Weiden, Nick Allen, Sherita Cobb, Tina Sykes, Jeff Nieman, Jay Bryan, Renee Price, <br /> Donna King, Val Hanson, Tami Pfeifer, Georgia Gamcsik, Susan Worley, Gayanne Chambless , <br /> Amanda Farris, Come Piontak, Whitney Nash, Nathan Ligo, Tom McQuiston, Denise Briggs, <br /> Carmen Johnson (* Members in Bold) <br /> Welcome <br /> The meeting opened with a welcome from Chair, Meg McGurk and introductions . <br /> Minutes Review and Approval <br /> The Council reviewed the minutes from October 2016 . Carol McClelland motioned for minutes <br /> to be approved and was seconded by Jeff Nieman. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Agency Roundtable/PEP Progress Report <br /> There was a memo from Cindy Porterfield sent out indicating that programs should report on <br /> PEP Progress in December. Programs were not aware of the need to update the PEP . Denise <br /> will send out the required form(s) and instructions to the programs to make any updates . Since <br /> Orange only meets every other month, we have a little more time and will table the report until <br /> the February meeting. <br /> E� <br /> Boomerang — Have served 40 youth to date in Alternative to Suspension program and served 158 <br /> in After- School program. Just had open house for Boomerang . A young lady who was involved <br /> with Boomerang about 9 years ago went to college, earned her Master' s, and returned recently to i <br /> volunteer. <br /> Volunteers for Youth — Community Service has served 34 youth and Teen Court has served 20 . <br /> Of those youth, Teen Court served 1 from MDP and Community Service served 16 . <br /> Freedom House — FAN is currently serving 13 families and to date has served 26 . They are in , <br /> the process of posting a Common Sense Parenting class and are trying an accelerated version for <br /> the first time because they realized that many parents don' t have custody of their children and <br /> need to practice parenting techniques to help regain custody. <br /> Dispute Settlement Center — Family Table is starting Tuesday evening and have 5 kids and their <br /> parents coming. Would still love to have more, so please make referrals even though the first <br /> class is only a few days away. They have worked with only 3 youth in Mediation program, <br /> which is way down from last year. Doing a lot of work with Restorative Justice in Orange <br /> County Schools and have been doing a lot of conferencing and mediation. <br /> Young Warriors — Continuing to serve 4 youth admitted from prior FY and have served 3 court <br /> referred youth this year, with 1 successful and 1 unsuccessful termination. <br /> DJJ Data — October : 3 distinct juveniles, 3 complaints, 0 approved for court, 3 put on plan or <br /> contract, 0 school related offenses , 0 juveniles in detention, and 0 juvenile on electronic <br /> monitoring. <br /> i <br />
