8
Page 1 of 3 Andrew Landstrom
Volunteer Application
Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions
Name: Dr Andrew Landstrom
Name Called:
Home Address: 320 Papyrus PI
Hillsborough NC 27278
Phone: 832-484-2026
Email: aplandstrom@gmail.com
Year of OC Residence: 2018
Township of Residence: Hillsborough
Zone of Residence: Hillsborough Town Limits
Gender Identity: Male
Ethnic Background: Other
Age Range: 35-59
Community Activities/Organizational Memberships:
I am a member of the Hillsborough Parks and Rec Board and have been an active
member since the summer of 2019.
Through my day job, I am a member of several medical and scientific organizations as
well as administrative roles within Duke School of Medicine and Duke Children s Hospitals
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
I have not participated in Orange County Advisory Boards
Boards/Commissions applied for:
Board of Equalization and Review (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT)
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
I received my undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill and a obtained an MD and a PhD (in
molecular pharmacology)from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN. I
completed pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric electrophysiology clinical training, as
well as post doctoral training in molecular physiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
TX. I then accepted a job (back home!) and returned to NC with my wife in family. We moved
to Hillsborough in 2018 and I currently lead a cardiovascular genetics clinic at Duke Children s
Hospital and I lead a research team exploring the causes of sudden cardiac death-predisposing
diseases.
While I recognize that none of these experiences do not seem to be directly relevant to a board
of equalization and review; however, it has reinforced several characteristics that are important-
being objective in the face of(sometimes heated) emotion and being financially prudent for a
greater good. Perhaps more importantly, I am a homeowner and member of the community. I
know firsthand what its like to have what I perceived was an unfair property assessment-when
we lived in Pearland, TX I believed that my county appraised property value was a gross over
estimation given the home sale prices in the neighborhood. I know firsthand how challenging
and opaque the process of petitioning for an adjustment can be.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
