Orange County Recreation & Parks <br /> Capital Needs Assessment <br /> FY 1997- 2007 <br /> The Orange County Master Recreation and Parks Plan <br /> • Adopted in July 1988 and is currently being revised <br /> Identified the need to : <br /> Construct six Community Parks ( 25 + acres each ) and four District Parks ( 75 + <br /> acres each ) . ( Land acquisition and development costs = $ 18 million . ) <br /> • This assessment based on parkland acreage requirements by using projected <br /> population for 2005 . Based on these projections the total parkland needs are <br /> 958 acres . <br /> Note : For the purpose of this assessment and the fulure revision of the Master Plan the <br /> follolving is the focils : - <br /> • Need for athletic facilities and active recreation areas <br /> • Parks that have not been completed <br /> • What is attainable ? <br /> . r <br /> Efland - Cheeks Community School Park - . $ 4-407000 <br /> iExisting sinzll community center adjacent to elementary school <br /> • Proposed pack is on - 1G - plus acres and includes new playground equipment , picnic shelter and <br /> Outdoor classroom , Mature interpretive trail and lecture station ; multi - purpose field , - <br /> waiking / fitness trail , upgraded basketball courts and other amenities . <br /> i . <br /> Fairview Community Park - $ 700 , 000 <br /> • Existing 42 acre tract ( formerly the old Hillsborough landfill ) <br /> • Presently on site is a playground and picnic area . <br /> • Town of I* Iillsborough and other sources interested in developing this park with picnic <br /> shelters , soccer fields , softball fields , and other amenities . <br /> • Adjacent land owned by Town may-- be used for a major park entrance and further <br /> development . - -- <br /> g <br /> Northern_ Orange Human Services Center-4500 000 - - - <br /> , <br /> • Existing facility ( formerly a school of 1950 ' s vintage ) . <br /> Softball yg <br /> Feld and playground area exist on the 8 acre tract . - <br /> _ P <br /> • Building needs renovations . that are addressed in the County ' s Public Works CIR-- some of <br /> which include lighting , painting , A . D .
