Town of Hillsborough <br /> The Hillsborough Parks and Recreation Master Plan was approved <br /> in 1993 . Its goals are still valid although additional needs have <br /> arisen that indicate the Master Plan is due for an update . A <br /> recent annexation to the Town for a new subdivision coupled <br /> with substantial growth within Hillsborough Township increases, <br /> the need for recreational opportunities . The Town , as yet , has no <br /> public parks that are officially open to the public although several <br /> park projects are currently in progress . <br /> The Parks and Recreation Board was appointed in 1996 . Since <br /> then the members of the Board have assessed existing property <br /> and facilities owned by the Town and have assigned some <br /> priorities for implementation of the Master Plan . Several projects <br /> are ongoing . Funding has been allocated and / or is being <br /> requested for these projects . <br /> The most immediate recreation needs , based on the original survey <br /> and subsequent requests by townspeople , include ( not necessarily in <br /> _ order of need ) <br /> :y <br /> A . Playing fields for organized sports <br /> B . Basketball courts <br /> C . Safe places to walk and bicycle <br /> D,. Playgrounds within safe walking distance of residences <br /> E . Neighborhood parks <br /> F . Skateboard facilities <br /> C . Standards <br /> See Section VII for recommendations on the development of <br /> coordinated standards . See Appendix F for existing standards . <br /> D . Status of Previous Bonds and Projects <br /> Constructed <br /> In previous years; different jurisdictions have issued bonds for <br /> recreation and parks projects . A number of existing facilities used by <br /> County and Town residents were funded through these bonds .
