Criteria for Evaluating Possible Land Acguisition <br /> Subject to approval by the Orange County Board of Commissioners , a <br /> system should be developed to evaluate how well potential land <br /> acquisitions meet the goals and objectives . A number of specific <br /> measures have been suggested both for the purchase of property , and <br /> for the appropriateness of siting facilities . The components of this <br /> system would become the basis of the Recreation and Parks <br /> Acquisition section of the County 's Resource Acquisition Program ( see <br /> Section V ) . <br /> Potential Land Acquisition Criteria ( examples ) <br /> * The existence of matching funds from requesting jurisdiction , <br /> * Grants and other funding opportunities ; <br /> * Completion of existing projects with an adopted facility plans <br /> Identified in the Inventory of Natural Areas and Wildlife Habitats of <br /> Orange County , N . C . ; <br /> * Compatibility of planned use with adjacent land uses <br /> ( Rogerson / Oakwood neighborhood park ) ; <br /> * Appropriate intensity of use for the area ( Merritt Pasture at NC 54 <br /> and US 15 / 501 ) ; <br /> * Location ( Northern Community Park ) , <br /> * Promotes continuity of wildlife corridors , greenways and linear <br /> parks , <br /> * Land adjacent to new schools ( Efland - Cheeks , Southern Park ) ; <br /> * Land for active recreation is suitable and appropriate for uses ( i . e . , <br /> not ecologically - sensitive areas ) , <br /> * Furthers purposes of Upper Eno and New Hope Corridor <br /> preservation efforts; <br /> * Access ( transportation ) is safe and easily - accomplished ; <br /> * Meeting multiple goals ( above ) gets higher weighting , <br /> Potential Facilities Siting Criteria : <br /> * Facilities should be centrally located for population to be served <br /> * Both active and low - impact ( natural area ) recreation opportunities <br /> 13 <br />
