E . JobLink Activity Narrative <br /> This quarter, The Durham Technical Community College added a valuable staff resource <br /> to the Orange County Skills Development/JobLink Center by hiring a 1/4 time HRD <br /> instructor for Orange County . Based at the JobLink Center, Dina Logan splits her time <br /> between providing one - on- one assistance in the Career Resource Center as well as <br /> teaching re - employment classes for the Employment Security Commission . Dina Logan <br /> joins us with a rich and vaned Human Resource background and does an excellent job in <br /> relating to our JobLink customers what skills and attitude employers are looking for . <br /> Good Work received a grant to provide its Good Work Building Your Business to all <br /> Carrboro residents and businesses free . There are 14 participants in the class including <br /> four members of the Orange County Disability Awareness Council . <br /> The Orange County Literacy Council has conducted intakes with approximately 15 new <br /> adult literacy students and intakes with approximately 20 new tutors . The Literacy <br /> Council also held an Annual Tutor Social and In service in August for 13 tutors on <br /> "Using Computer Technology to Enhance Literacy Instruction . <br /> The Orange County Literacy Council provided a Diabetes Education Class that met <br /> weekly for six weeks for adults who have diabetes and wanted to learn more about <br /> managing their disease while improving their literacy skills . Three students participated <br /> in that class in August and September for a total of 15 client contracts ; two family <br /> members attended for several sessions to learn more about how they could be more <br /> informed and supportive . <br /> Anmuane McCaig , an Amencorps * VISTA volunteer, has joined the Orange County <br /> Literacy Council through the ` Chapel of The Cross ' Johnson Intern program . She will <br /> replace Paula Borden, the Amencorp * VISTA volunteer, who will leave at the end of <br /> October . Annmane ' s work at the Skills Development Center will focus on helping <br /> tutors and adult learners learn how to use computer software , as well as working with <br /> several adult learners . <br /> Lucy Lewis , Orange County Literacy Council Director , participated in a panel <br /> presentation and panel discussion on Collaborative Relationships between JobLink <br /> Centers and Basic Skills at the Workforce Development Conference in Greensboro . <br /> Five JOCCA staff attended the N . C . Workforce Development Partnership Conference in <br /> September . Two staff attended the Welfare - to Work training in Raleigh , N . C . JOCCA <br /> staff also attended numerous meetings . These meeting included three Child - Support <br /> Court sessions , three JCPC Board meetings , two CASAWORKS meetings , two <br /> Communities That Care meetings , and two Systems of Care meeting . With a grant from <br /> the Workforce Development Board , JOCCA obtained Discover Software and a two - <br /> drawer file cabinet for the Center ' s Resource Room . <br /> 5 <br />
