P. <br /> Orange County Commission for Women <br /> Box 8181 • 110 North Churton Street • Hillsborough , NC 27278 <br /> RY 9 , 1997 MEETING JANUA <br /> GOVERNMENT SERVICES CENTER, HILLSBOROUGH <br /> MINUTES <br /> Present : Winnie Morgan, chair; Aimee Tattersall ; Ricka Samulski ; Karen Bennett ; Deborah Van Dyken ; <br /> Ronni Zuckerman; Abbie Schwaderer <br /> Excused : Peachee Wicker; Linda Carver; Martha Oxenfeldt <br /> Guests Present : Commissioner William Crowther; Jacky Philips ; Jennifer Tennant (prospective Commission <br /> members) <br /> Staff' Present : Lucy Lewis, director <br /> W elcome/Introductions <br /> Chair Winnie Morgan called the meeting to order at 7 : 35 p . m . and asked members and guests to introduce <br /> themselves to Commissioner Crowther . Then Commissioner Crowther introduced himself to the group . <br /> Commissioner Crowther Comments <br /> Commissioner Crowther thanked the Commission for Women for their dedicated service . He suggested <br /> that the Commission should look at the action steps in the report Sustainable America and agreed to provide <br /> staff with a copy, and suggested that the Commission might want to work with the Economic Development <br /> Commission on issues of economic equality for women . He then indicated that one of the Commissioners ' <br /> goals for this year is to look at boards and commissions , with one possible outcome being one board per <br /> ill study this issue, and will then ask boards for their input before <br /> department . He indicated that the staff w <br /> any final decisions are made . He said that recommendations are likely by fall 1997 . Members expressed <br /> their concern that boards and commissions have an opportunity to have input into the staff proceedings . He <br /> encouraged members to communicate with the Commissioners regarding small issues (by letter) and large <br /> issues as well (in person or by mail ) , and then left the meeting . <br /> A committee of Winnie Morgan, Judy Woodall , Jennifer Tennant , and Kristen Dunnivant agreed to draft a <br /> position paper regarding the Commission for Women that could be included as part of the board and <br /> commission study process, so that the Commission is proactively sharing information rather than reacting to <br /> recommendations . <br /> Membership ; Vice- Chair <br /> Andrea Lynn has resigned due to the pressures of a new community and new job . Members voted to <br /> contact Leticia Lumpkin , an applicant for the Chapel Hill township position , to see if she was still interested . <br /> Because Andrea was vice - chair, Winnie will be talking with Commission members regarding filling the vice - <br /> chair position . Winnie said that Kay Singer will be applying for one of the Hillsborough township positions <br /> Hillsborough 732 - 8181 Chapel Hill 967 - 9251 • Mebane 227 - 2031 • Durham 68 & 7331 <br />
