C . 86 Economic Development District <br /> COPIES : Geoffrey Gledhill, County Attorney <br /> Ted Abernathy, Economic Development Director <br /> When the Board of Commissioners approved the Economic Development District proposals on March 2 , <br /> approval of the I -40/Old NC 86 District was withheld, pending a Orange County-Hillsborough initiative <br /> to jointly plan that District, including the area to the north along Old NC 86 . <br /> At its March 15 meeting, the Board of Commissioners continued discussion on the process and <br /> identified the following preliminary guidelines : <br /> L 10 members will be appointed to a Work Group as follows : <br /> a. Board of Commissioners - 2 <br /> b . Hillsborough Town Board - 2 <br /> c . Orange County Planning Board - 2 <br /> d . Hillsborough Planning Board - 2 <br /> e . Orange County EDC on 2 ; <br /> 2 . Citizens will be encouraged to come and participate, but representation will be limited to the <br /> above groups ; and <br /> 3 . A County representative should serve as Chair . <br /> The Board asked that the Chair of the Commissioners and the County Manager draft a proposal and <br /> bring it back for consideration at a meeting in April . <br /> Recently, you asked that I identify general and specific interests/issues which needed to be addressed <br /> by the Work Group . A draft list is provided below . <br /> 1 . General Interests - As identified at BOCC Retreat <br /> a. Avoiding urban sprawl; <br /> b . Preserving protected watersheds and groundwater supplies ; <br /> c . Encouraging bicycle and mass transit transportation in and between urbanized aY• eas2 <br />
