1 <br /> APPROVED 2/4/2020 <br /> MINUTES <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUSINESS MEETING <br /> January 21, 2020 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in a Business Meeting on Tuesday, <br /> January 21, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, N.C. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Penny Rich and Commissioners Jamezetta <br /> Bedford, Mark Dorosin, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, and Renee Price <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> Travis Myren, and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below.) <br /> Chair Rich called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> Chair Rich noted the following items at the Commissioners' places: <br /> - 4b- PowerPoint and Report for OWASA <br /> - 6a- PowerPoint and Revised Resolution for Greene Tract <br /> - Blue sheet: Board of County Commissioners' quarterly travel expenses <br /> - Green sheet: Information from Commissioner Greene re: Removal of Thomas Ruffin's picture <br /> - White sheet: Two resident post cards in re: Refugees' resettlement <br /> PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> The Chair acknowledged the public charge <br /> Arts Moment <br /> Katie Murray, Orange County Arts Commission Coordinator, introduced Karina <br /> Castaneda Esparza: <br /> Karina Castaneda Esparza is a proud daughter of two immigrant parents. She is from Mebane, <br /> North Carolina. Her top priority at the moment is to continue her academic journey and make <br /> her parents proud. She plans to major in psychology. While she does not know exactly what <br /> she want her career to be, she knows for a fact that she is headed toward a place in life her <br /> parents have always dreamt of for her. Since her freshman year at Orange High School, she <br /> has worked tutoring students that recently came from Spanish speaking countries or who <br /> struggle with the English language. She is committed to leading other Latinx students and <br /> minorities toward success. Over the past two years she has been involved in many community <br /> service programs and events and photography. She cares about unity and equality and knows <br /> that with strong, forward thinking and diverse students, girls and boys of every color will be able <br /> to thrive and earn the education they deserve. <br /> Karina Castaneda Esparza read an excerpt of her work. <br /> 2.
