Section IV-B-7-a-1 of the Orange County Subdivision Regulations, a copy of which is enclosed, establishes a method for the reservation of potential school sites. The Orange County Zoning Ordinance requires that owners of property within 500 feet of a property proposed for a land use classification change be notified. A public hearing is scheduled for May 29, 2001 at 7:30 PM in the Judge Gordan Battle Courtroom, New Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough. The Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Orange County Planning Board will hear comments from the general public, staff, and affected parties on this and other proposals. Please keep the following points in mind: 1. No decision will be made on this proposal on May 29 -the earliest date for a decision by the County Commissioners will be August 21, 2001; 2. More sites than needed have been identified to allow maximum flexibility in the future selection of sites -comments received at the hearing may result in sites being deleted; 3. Sites ultimately designated in the plan may be removed in the future if adequate sites are purchased or if there is no demonstrated need to keep them in the plan; and 4. Acquisition of any sites by the County and/or in conjunction with the School Board requires fair compensation to the property owner. Please remember that your property is not being considered as a possible school site in our Comprehensive Plan, but is located within 500. feet of a property that is under consideration.
