1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: January 21, 2020 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-c <br /> SUBJECT: Update on the Orange County Food Council <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager, Orange <br /> County Food Council <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Ashley Heger, Food Council Coordinator, <br /> PowerPoint Presentation 245-2146 <br /> PURPOSE: To receive an update from the Food Council about activities in the 2019 - 2020 <br /> fiscal year and the proposed scope of work for the 2020 - 2021 fiscal year. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Food Council Coordinator was hired in July 2019. This new <br /> Coordinator position was approved through an interlocal agreement process and is jointly <br /> funded by Orange County, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Carrboro. The Coordinator is <br /> charged with coordinating the Food Council and helping it achieve its goals. This <br /> presentation will provide an update of the Coordinator's work and progress since July 2019 <br /> plus an overview of the Food Council's plans for the 2020 - 2021 fiscal year. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with receiving this update. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are <br /> applicable to this item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or <br /> color; religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national <br /> origin or ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or <br /> economic status. <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding <br /> necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for <br /> themselves and their dependents. <br />
