`.~ <br />Orange County <br />Environment ~ Resource Conservation <br />306-A Revere Road / Pf) P>ox 8I81 <br />Hillsborough, t~rG 2i 278 <br />Phone: (919) 245-2590, Fax: (919) 644-3371 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Monica Evans, Deputy Clerk to the Board of Commissioners <br />FRAM: David Stancil, Environment and Resource Conservation Director <br />DATE: May 18, 2005 <br />SUB7ECT: Recommendation for Appointment to the Historic Preservation Commission <br />The following candidates for the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission meet or <br />exceed the requirements for commission membership outlined by the Certified Local <br />Government program: Leonard Vogel, Jack Bernhardt and Michelle Kempinski. These <br />candidates have preservation and/or related experience, and reside within orange County's <br />planning jurisdiction, <br />HPC members and Historic Preservation staff have been in contact with all three candidates. <br />Mr. Vogel and Mr. Bernhardt are interested in serving on the commission, Their knowledge <br />in design and archaeology will lead to a more well-rounded preservation board. Michelle <br />Kempinski is currently serving on the Commission for the Environment and the Efland- <br />Mebane Small Area Plan Taskforce, but would like to be considered at a later date. <br />Please convey this to the Board of County Commissioners for their consideration in June. <br />The candidates would fill the seats of Heath Aldridge and Chuck Cooper, who rotated off the <br />commission in March. The HPC will continue its recruitment efforts to fill a third seat <br />vacated by Rob Golan, who resigned in April, <br />
