Cameron Street <br />Idillsborough, N,C. 27278 <br />Dear Mr. Carey, <br />As you are aware the Orange Crnmty Board of Health has in the past twelve months appointed <br />six new members. With the broad range and complexity of issues the board deals with as well as <br />the history of several 4raage Cotmty public health concerns it can take several years to become a <br />fully oriented and effective board member. <br />In June 1995, I was originaIly appointed to serve a fall three year term a$er which T was to be <br />eligible to serve two additional three year terms. Janet Southerland and Melvin Hurston were <br />sim~arly appointed to be eligible for three 3 year terms. Wh11e a year ar two ago the <br />commissioners changed the length of service for appointed board members to two 3 year teams, I <br />would like to complete the original eligibl7ity service appointment through June 2004, I have <br />spoken with Dr. Southerland and Mr. Flurston and they world also like the opportlmtily to <br />complete their three terms. Given the large number of new board members and the fact that <br />recruitment and orientation of new members is very time consuming I believe, and the Health <br />Dixectar, Dr, Rosemary Summers conaus, it to be important to maintain this continuity on the <br />board, . <br />Tl>la~k you for giving me the oppoxtcmity to serve the citizens of Orange County on the Board of <br />Health, I consider it a priv~ege. <br />'~~ <br />Sincerely, , <br />than E.
