BACKGROUND: On June 30, 2001, two members of the Board of Health will complete 2 full terms on that Board. At the time these two members were appointed, they received letters, which indicated that they would be eligible to serve three three-year terms as provided for by the General Statute and which had been the Board's policy for appointments to the Board of Health. Since that time the County Commissioners adopted guidelines for appointments to County Boards and Commissions which limits the number of terms for any member of County Boards and Commissions to two three-year terms. This policy may be waived if the Board of Commissioners determines that the removal of an individual made ineligible by this policy would be detrimental to the functioning of that board or commission. FINANCIAL IMPACT: If these terms are not extended, the costs involved would be for recruitment of a dentist and a physician to serve on this Board. RECOMMENDATION (S): Options include the following: • Approv.e extending the terms as requested by the Board of Health Chair Jonathan Klein and as endorsed by Commissioner Carey; • Extend the terms of the three Board of Health members by one year and add one year to all terms of the remaining members to keep the terms staggered; • Extend the terms of the three Board of Health members by three years and develop a policy for implementing aone-year training period for all boards and commissions;
