A committee is being formed to <br /> discuss exhibit and program plans to enhance the visitor experience. Ideas such as a lecture series based on Hillsborough/Orange ' <br /> County Civil War topics, a video, artifacts, photographs, and letters will make up the exhibit event, which will run through January . <br /> Other Museum News : Currently on exhibit in the Museum's gallery is works by artist Pamela Norris through October. A paper <br /> conservator is coming to the Museum to evaluate the archival collection/works on paper New items have been added to the <br /> Musuem' ;s gift shop - Alliance members receive 10% off! The Orange County Historical Museum, which is on the N. C. Civil War <br /> Trail, is located at 201 Ni Churton Street and is open from 1lam - 4 p. m. Tuesday - Saturday, 1 - 4 p. m. on Sundays . For more <br /> information on this and otherprograms, please contact the museum at 7322201 or the Alliance at 732-7741 . <br /> Donations Sought for Burwell School Historic Site <br /> In an effort to bring 19th century Hillsborough to life for visitors to the Burwell School Historic Site, the Historic <br /> Hillsborough Commission is searching for small personal and household items that reflect the life of the site ' s occupants (family, <br /> slaves, and students) from the period 18304850. Examples of such items include a man' s and woman' s watch and chain, glass <br /> inkwells, ash buckets, wash pitchers and basins, medicine or remedy chest, and laundry baskets . These period items are being placed <br /> around the house to provide an authentic "lived-in" look for daily tours, the heritage education program for area schools, and special <br /> event programs including reenactments. Items will also play an important role in the hands -on activities for school children. For <br /> more information on donating items or sponsoring the purchase of reproductions, please contact the site ' s Executive Director, <br /> Katherine Malone-France at 732-7451 . <br /> Elizabeth Fenn to Give Lecture Presentation On Nov. 11 <br /> The Hillsborough Historical Society is pleased to present a lecture presentation by Elizabeth Fenn, PhD , at its Nov. 11 <br /> ro Her lecture, followed <br /> program by a booksigning and refreshments, will be on the subject of her recently released book Pox <br /> Americana: The Great f 177542.Smallpox Epidemic o p p (Location to be announced later,) During the years when the Revolutionary <br /> War transformed thirteen former British colonies into a new nation, a horrifying epidemic of smallpox was transforming—or <br /> ending—the lives of tens of thousands of people across the American continent. This great pestilence easily surpassed the war in <br /> terms of deaths, yet because of our understandable preoccupation with the Revolution and its aftermath, it has remained virtually <br /> unknown to us . Elizabeth A. Fenn is the first historian to reveal how deeply Variola affected the outcome of the War of <br /> Independence, and why it caused a continental epidemic, affecting the lives of virtually everyone in North America from Florida to <br /> Alaska Elizabeth A. Fenn, a resident of Hillsborough, teaches history at George Washington University. She is also the co-author of <br /> Natives and Newcomers with Peter Wood. <br /> The Last Last Fridays Scheduled for Oct. 26 <br /> As the end of this year's Last Fridays festivities draws near, the Hillsborough Arts Council and others are busy planning <br /> special activities in downtown Hillsborough for October 26 from 6 - 9 p. m. The Orange County Historical Museum has invited <br /> Karen Ireland to once again spin haunted tales of local folldore (time TBA) . Also returning is the "Haunted Walk through Historic <br /> Hillsborough" given by Colonial Guides of Hillsborough. The guided walk will be a mix of folklore and ghost stories covering three <br /> centuries . Tours are scheduled to begin at 6 ; 30 p .m. and again at 7 p.m at the Old Courthouse in downtown Hillsborough. Advance <br /> tickets are recommended and are $ 3/adult and $2/child(age 344) .
