Architect David Black <br /> and contractor Dean Ruedrich have been hued to oversee the restoration of this 1855 brick lined pit that is very rare in North <br /> Carolina. After the brick walled pit is restored, an appropriate ice house will be constructed to cover it. The details of public access <br /> and interpretation will be an important aspect of the ice house design: This project will be completed in two phases over a period of <br /> 2-3 years. The effort to raise funds for this project is underway. The Preservation Fund of Hillsborough is intent on preserving our <br /> local historic architecture and landscape . They meet four times a year to discuss local preservation issues and to focus on its current <br /> preservation project If you are interested in serving as a trustee please contact the Alliance for Historic. Margaret Lane <br /> between Hillsborough Plumbing and the old Southern States building. If you haven't <br /> been by to see their new office, drop by and check it out. <br /> Candidates Forum : The Chamber is holding a Candidates Forum on October 17, 12 Wish List <br /> p. m. - 1 : 30 p.m. during their regular monthly luncheon at the Big Barn at Daniel Boone As we continue to grow and offer <br /> Village . Candidates for Mayor and the Town Board have been invited to participate more services , so does our need for <br /> and members are being asked to submit questions prior to the forum Questions will office items . Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, a <br /> 501 (c) 3 organization: <br /> Candlelight Tour: The Chamber staff and volunteers are hard at work preparing for <br /> their next big event - the Candlelight Tour scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 . *Antique . bookshelf or <br /> Featured sites on the tour this year include the Nash Hooper House (1772), corner cupboard <br /> Moorefields ( 1785), the Hughes Academy with handmade crafts by Shotzie Crowther, * antique table- top cabinet <br /> and an 1863 re-enactment event centered around the Burwell School Historic Site. The *scanner <br /> Museum will also play a part in the re-enactment activities. Other sites are being lined *round meeting table <br /> up currently and more information should be available soon. As always, plenty of <br /> volunteers will be needed to help at each site, with set up, ticket sales, sponsorships, <br /> serving refreshments, etc.). Hours are available Wednesday through Sunday and training is provided. These paid and volunteer positions are ideal for <br /> mothers with children, teachers and anyone who has an interest in history and an enjoyment of sharing information with the public . <br /> The Burwell Site provides visitors with a glimpse of life in antebellum Hillsborough as revealed through the lives of the Burwell <br /> family, their slaves and the students who attended their school for young ladies ( 18374857.)
