<br /> ` The Alliance Welcomes New Staff
<br /> The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough welcomes new staff to the Dickson House, as well as the Historic District
<br /> Commission, Historic Hillsborough Commission, and the Orange County Historical Museum. Todd Fitzpatrick joined the
<br /> Alliance/Visitor Center staff in August as the new Office Manager. A native of Connecticut, Todd has lived in Hillsborough for
<br /> about three years. He received a degree in history from the University of RI. and served in the military for four years. As office
<br /> manager, Todd brings a lot of database and inventory control management to the organization and has brought a lot of new ideas for
<br /> our gift shop. With wife Meghan and 2 yr. old son Charlie, he has been bard at work renovating their turn of the century house in
<br /> West Hillsborough.
<br /> The Town -of Hillsborough has recently hired a new planner, Margaret Schucker, whose responsibilities include the
<br /> Historic District and Commission, the Parks and Recreation Board and other "environmental" planning activities. A native New
<br /> Yorker, Margaret and her family have lived in North Carolina for six years. She has a degree in landscape architecture and a minor m
<br /> architecture/architectural history from N. C. State. Prior to joining the staff ' the Hillsborough Planning Department, Margaret was
<br /> an intern in the office of the Raleigh Historic District Commission, She has lived in several older houses over the years and has
<br /> practical, first Band knowledge of the rehabilitation of historic buildings . '
<br /> As the Historic Site Coordinator since mid-August, Katherine Malone-France serves as the Executive Director of the
<br /> Burwell School 'Historic Site, assisting the Historic Hillsborough Commission with its programming, site maintenance and operation,
<br /> and development Ms. Malone France holds a Masters degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Georgia, where she was
<br /> a member of the national honorary historic preservation fraternity, Sigma Delta Tau. Ms. Malone-France graduated cum laude from
<br /> Wofford College with a B .A. in history . She previously served as a preservation planning intern at the Northeast Georgia Regional
<br /> Development Commission and as the manager/buyer for Rake, Inc. of Claremont, CA. Ms. Malone France is married to Derek
<br /> Malone France, PhD ., an Andrew K. Melon fellow at Duke University. The couple resides in Cariboro .
<br /> Ernest Dollar, who began wow in early September as the first Executive Director of the Orange County Historical Museum,
<br /> is a Durham native who attended high school at C.E . Jordan High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
<br /> graduating in 1993 with a B ,F ,A. in Design and a B . A. in History. Dollar attended graduate school at the College of Charleston in
<br /> 1996 . He is very active in local history and organized a historic highway marker campaign in 1998 for the Battle of Morrisville in
<br /> Wake County . Ernest has been working at the Bennett Place Historic site since 1993 and has worked in several historic sites in North
<br /> and South Carolina including Middleton Place National Historic Site and Charles Towne 1670 'n Charleston, South Carolina. He has
<br /> recently worked at SAS Institute on an interactive Civil War CD ROM project where he worked in conjunction with The History
<br /> Channel.
<br /> Dollar first became seriously interested in history through local archaeology, especially in sites dealing with the American
<br /> Civil War. Since 1993 he has been a •living historian portraying this period, presenting programs to school groups, and programs at
<br /> local historic sites . "I hope to .bring the Orange County Historical Museum into the 21st century and make it the best museum it can
<br /> be. Our county has so much history that we need a place where anyone can come and really learn about our rich and colorful past. I
<br /> am very excited to be working at the museum and encourage members of the community to come down and get involved " In
<br /> addition, Dollar sees many areas of involvement for members of the community to become in involved. He adds, "The doors are
<br /> always open to people who want to be a part of revitalization. We are looking forward to growing and bringing in some new exhibits
<br /> and some fantastic new programs that wilLbe open to everyone, in_ the community . I think we will have something for everyone . "
<br /> Ernest will next be speaking at the Duke Institute for Learning on October 17 as part of a local history program on the end of the Civil
<br /> War in the Triangle area. A reception welcoming Mr. Dollar was held on September 28 during Last Fridays at the Orange County
<br /> Historical Museum.
