1.. <br /> a <br /> AN ORDINANCE CREATING <br /> THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> WHEREAS , the historic heritage of the State of North Carolina is one of our most <br /> valued and important assets ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the North Carolina General Statutes authorize counties to safeguard the <br /> heritage of the County by preserving any historic sites therein that embody important elements of <br /> its cultural , social , economic , political , archaeological or architectural history and to promote the <br /> use and conservation of such site for the education, pleasure and enrichment of the residents of <br /> the County and State as a whole ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the conservation of historic sites will stabilize and increase the values in <br /> their areas and strengthen the overall economy of the State ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the County Commissioners of Orange County desire to safeguard the <br /> heritage of the county by preserving historic landmarks and historic districts ; to , enhance the <br /> environmental quality of neighborhoods ; to establish and improve property values ; and to foster <br /> economic development ; and <br /> WHEREAS , County <br /> W S , the Cun y Commissioners of Orange County do therefore desire to create <br /> a commission to be known as the Historic Preservation Commission of Orange County to <br /> perform the duties of regulating historic landmarks and historic districts pursuant to NCGS <br /> Chapter 160A, Article 19 , Part 3 C and the provisions of this ordinance . <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> OF ORANGE COUNTY AS FOLLOWS . <br /> Article 1 . Historic Preservation Commission <br /> Section 1 . 1 Establishment <br /> Under the authority p of Chapter 160A Article 19 Part 3 C of the North Carolina General <br /> Statutes , there is hereby established the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission, <br /> hereafter referred to as the " Commission" , consisting of seven (7) members . Members shall <br /> serve without compensation, but they may be reimbursed for incidental expenses incurred in <br /> connection with official duties . <br /> Section 1 . 2 Oualifications <br /> Amended <br /> 6/7/93 <br /> Each member shall reside within the territorial jurisdiction of Orange County . In <br /> addition, all members of the Commission shall have demonstrated special interest, experience or <br /> education in history, architecture, landscape architecture , archaeology or related fields . <br /> B4 <br />
