<br /> Streetscape Improvements Activities Underway
<br /> The Hillsborough Tourism Board in partnership with the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough is working on some of
<br /> the priorities laid out in the Downtown Appearance and Improvements Plan . A request for proposals was sent out to
<br /> consultants in November for a feasibility plan to study the steps and costs of implementing the streetscape plan , which
<br /> IMP
<br /> includes the possibility of relocating utility lines , improving sidewalks and other pedestrian amenities , decorative street lighting
<br /> options , costs , and sources of funding . ,
<br /> Finishing touches to a design (donated by Isley, De Luca, Isley, Hawkins of Durham) for a pocket park in the alley on
<br /> N . Churton Street are being made. Bids will be sent to metal sculptors to create metal arches on either end of the alley once
<br /> the design specifications are completed. The Alliance is also currently working with a graduate student from UNC's Planning
<br /> program on a survey and evaluation of current commercial uses downtown, and recommendations for how we can attract
<br /> more retail that . is complementary to existing of$ce. and institutional uses downtown.
<br /> Revolutionary War Re -enactment
<br /> Scheduled for February
<br /> The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough is '
<br /> sponsoring a re - enactment of Cornwallis ' occupation of
<br /> Hillsborough of February 1781 on February 24, 2001 . The
<br /> location of the event is tentatively planned for the area wish List
<br /> between East Margaret Lane and the Eno River . The
<br /> re - enactors , led by Mr. Scott Douglas of Greensboro , will As we continue to grow and offer more
<br /> represent the "33rd Regiment of Foot" of the British services , so does our need for office items .
