Lee Smith is the author of numerous <br /> stories , articles , and novels , including Oral History, Family Linen, The Devils Dream, and Saving Grace. She has received the <br /> Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Robert Penn Warren Prize for Fiction, the <br /> North Carolina Award for Literature, and the O . Henry Award. The program will take place at +30 p . m. at the . Old Orange <br /> County Courthouse A reception will follow the program and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the <br /> author. <br /> On Sunday, March 11 at 3 mm. the Society will co-host a program with the Hillsborough Arts Council titled " Called to <br /> be Midwives : Remembering the Faribault Family of Hillsborough" at Mt . Bright Baptist Church on W. Union Street. This <br /> program will feature exhibits and family reminiscences by Walter Faribault of his mother and grandmother, both of whom served <br /> as midwives in the Hillsborough area in the first half of the 20th century. <br /> The next program is scheduled for April. 22nd at 3 ID.m. and will feature architectural historian Barbara Church on " <br /> William Nichols' Contribution to - Architecture in Hillsborough. " The site for the program, which will include slides , is the <br /> meeting room at the Orange County Public Library on West Tryon Street. Ms . Church, who has a keen interest in early 19th <br /> century architecture, will reveal what her research has turned up about how Mr. Nichols , state architect, came to be responsible <br /> for a fair number of building projects in Hillsborough and what those projects were . <br /> The Historical Society will once again host their annual dinner on a Fridav in May 2001 (the date has not been chosen <br /> yet) . Doug Marlette is scheduled to be the speaker so watch for more information on the date and time . The site will be outdoors <br /> on the lawn in Cameron Park behind the Board of Education Building at East King and Cameron Streets . In case of inclement <br /> weather, plans are to move next door to St. Matthew's Church. <br /> The lecture programs are all free and open to the public. There is a cost for the annual dinner.
