ORANGE COUNTY
ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCE CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
MEMORANDUM
T0 : Historic Preservation Commission
From : David Stancil , Environment and Resource Conservation Director
Date : a September 13 , 2000
Re : Lands Legacy — Annual Action Plan 2001 - 2002
, the HPC will be asked at its September, October and November As discussed in August
meetings to discuss any prof ects you would like to recommend to the County
Commissioners for inclusion in the Annual Action Plan for Lands Legacy for the
upcoming 2001 -2002 fiscal year (July 1 , 2001 - June 30 , 2002) . A draft Annual Action
Plan will be presented to the Board at their annual retreat in mid-December.
Attached is the process that is to be used for developing the Annual Action Plan, and the
2000 -2001 Interim Action Plan. As you can see, each relevant advisory board will be
making recommendations on projects for land acquisition (whether fee- simple purchase,
conservation easement or other alternative acquisition methods) , if any. These projects
will then be compiled and prioritized into a draft Annual Action Plan.
Please think at your September meeting about any land acquisitions that you might
recommend to further the goals of preserving the County ' s cultural and archaeological
heritage, if any. You may wish to look at your adopted criteria (also attached) . Feel free
to identify projects that may offer multiple preservation goals (a historic farmstead that is
still a working farm, for example) . j
In previous discussions , the following ideas have come up (please do not limit your
discussion to these topics — provided only as a starting point) :
• Chatwood (combination of natural area and cultural site)
• Archaeological sites along the Eno River -
• Others . . .
I plan to be present at your October and November meetings as you finalize any
recommendations . Please feel free to communicate any questions or comments to Tina on
September 20 .
cc : Tina Moon , Preservation Planner
Rich Shaw, Land Conservation Manager
