Carolina <br /> and North Carolina Main Street Program <br /> Host statewide Conference <br /> Certainly a timely topic , "Partners in Smarter Growth: Main Street and Preservation" is the theme for <br /> a joint statewide conference taking place September 1447 in New Bern , produced in collaboration with <br /> Preservation North Carolina , NC Main Street Program which is celebrating its 20th anniversary , and the NC <br /> State Historic Preservation Office . <br /> Four engaging keynote speakers will address the conference : Southern Living Executive Editor Phillip <br /> Morris ; Edward T . McMahon , Director of the American Greenways Program of the Conservation Fund ; <br /> rmrmn <br /> Pulitzer Prize - winning journalist Thomas Hylton ; and Carol Weissman of St . Louis , one of the most compelling <br /> speakers on fundraising in the country . Eighteen workshops will complement these speakers , providing insights <br /> on smart growth , preserving the recent past, and the impact historic preservation continues to have on <br /> downtown development.
