} :? :;'ti •: iz For Your Information Y Sam Hobgood, Tourism Board Chair, recently returned from Ottawa, Canada where he helped cater the annual U . S . Embassy' s July 4th celebration. Mr. Hobgood took with him hundreds of Hillsborough brochures and helped spread the word about Historic Hillsborough. An estimated 5000 people attended. II Speaking of spreading the word, Hillsborough's role as a major base of Continental Army and British operations during the Revolutionary War is prominently featured in the recent motion picture "The Patriot." To find out more about Hillsborough during the Revolutionary War, come by the Visitors Center (Alexander Dickson House) at 150 East King Street and get a copy of our Revolutionary War walking tour guide. Or, come by on Saturday mornings at 10 : 30am and take a guided tour of these sites and more by the Colonial Guides . For more information call the Alliance office at 732- 7741 or Colonial Guides at 732- 0858 , * The Hillsborough Historical Society and the Orange County Historical Museum are pleased to announce that the Historical Society will be moving their office to a room at the Museum this summer. This move is beneficial for both organizations as the Society can now publicly display some pieces in their collection. The Museum will also benefit from having greater access to mforma tion in the Society ' s collection for researching exhibits . * The Alliance office and the Historical Society recently contributed funding support and items for the time capsule buried on the Old Courthouse grounds during Hog Day. The time capsule project, headed up by the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce , will be opened in 2100 , Some of the items contributed by the Alliance and Society include volumes 1 & 2 of the Historical Society Journal, "A Sense of Place " with , photographs of Hillsborough historic sites by Elizabeth Matheson, the 1999 Alliance calendar featuring " then and now" photos of important landmarks and views of Hillsborough in the 19th and 20th centuries , and some brochures . Chatwood Gardens was the subject of a recent feature article in the current Triangle publication Metro . Also featured prominently is information on the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough. i Mark your calendars for the next Historical Society program on September 17 . Friends, family and acquaintences will share stories and history told to them by Joe Rosemond, a lifelong resident of Hillsborough and friend of the historic preservation community who passed away this spring.
