Moon : This letter is to follow up on our telephone conversation on July 7 regarding signs for the Cedar Grove community which announce its designation as a National Register Historic District . As you probably know, Cedar Grove Rural Crossroads Historic District was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 23 , 1998 . At a Historic Preservation Commission meeting , held on October 24 , 1996 , at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church , Jean Anderson , a member of the Commission , asked Donald Belk , then Orange County Preservation Planner , " If Cedar Grove were to be put on the National Register, would there be any physical evidence for travelers as they are entering a National Register district? " Mr. Belk responded , "There could be . The Commission could ask the County to provide some type of recognition through a plaque or attractive sign . " ( From Draft minutes of 10 -24-96 Historic Preservation commission ) Several citizens of this community remember this conversation and assumed that Mr . Belk would help us acquire such plaques or signs that would be physical evidence of this community' s listing on the National Register of Historic Places as of April 23 , 1998 . Since he is no longer employed by Orange County , we would like to know what steps should be taken to request that two permanent signs or plaques , announcing the Cedar Grove Rural Crossroads Historic District , be designed , made and placed on Efland-Cedar Grove Road , north and south of the intersection with Carr Store Road .
