VOTE : Unanimous ,
AGENDA ITEM #49. CHAIR COMMENTS
Allison and Golan reported on their recent site visit to Mason Hall where they measured and drew the
building . Sharing field notes, Allison described the existing building and its interior layout particularly
the unique floor plan . Allison also noted that it would probably be too costly to save the structure at this
point. The most the HPC can do is ensure that the building is well documented in the county ' s inventory .
AGENDA ITEM #5 : ITEMS FOR DECISON
a. Select Photos from Quentin Patterson Collection
Quentin Patterson, who served as Orange County Agricultural agent for several years, loaned the HPC
several photographs of local buildings and farms for possible inclusion in the book . The HPC reviewed
the photos, made their selections, and discussed the process for having duplicates made .
The HPC also discussed ways to fill- in some of the gaps in the manuscript with additional local history
specific to individual crossroads and neighborhoods . After a short discussion, the HPC decided to
develop a brief overview of each major community to include as a short narrative with each township in
the inventory portion of the book . Each section would include a map with the main crossroads labeled
and one or two scenic photos, which characterize the neighborhood . Other ideas discussed included :
book layout, township introduction information, a possible field trip for photograph collecting, barn and
water mill inclusion, photos of lost or destroyed historic sites, and the importance of including interior
photos where specific details such as "three part cornice" are discussed .
b . Orange County Historical Architecture Manuscript Inventory Selection
— Part II
Moon suggested that the HPC create a subcommittee to work on the publication, but the commission
preferred to work as a unit. The HPC reviewed and selected specific sites for inclusion in the inventory
section of the publication from the files for Hillsborough and Eno townships .
AGENDA ITEM #6 : INFORMATIO
NAL ITEMS
a. Town of Hillsborough Design Guidelines
g g
b . "Local filmmakers capture Trice ' s life in music "
The importance of having some local flair of historical heritage in the book was expressed .
c.
