The interior building renovations are in process so we will likely meet in
Cooperative Extension Service food lab . Staff will post a sign by the main doorway so you know where to
goo
The focus for the August meeting is the formal election of a Historic Preservation Commission chair and
vice chair, along with the continued selection of historic sites for the inventory portion of the publication . I
have been in contact with Joe Griffin about his collection of documentary photos of Orange County
buildings . If his schedule will permit it, I will invite him to come to this meeting, so that the HPC can
review his collection . We can postpone the Little River inventory selection if need be .
Two days ago, I received the nomination materials to place Montrose, owned by the Goodwins, on the
National Register for Historic Places . As you may recall, the county has 60 days to hold a public hearing
and prepare comments from both the HPC and the Board of County Commissioners for submittal to the
state . Unfortunately due to the timing of the notice requirements, the HPC will have to hold the public
hearing in September, which leaves a short period of time to get the HPC ' s comments to the BOCC and on
to Archives & History by the October deadline . One option under consideration is to hold the September
HPC meeting earlier in the month, such as September 20 instead of September 27 . Please bring your
calendars to the meeting so that we can ensure that there is a quorum at the September meeting/public
hearing .
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 23 , 20008
