i
T•k . i _ I —•• re r
Dear Commissioners, Staff and Local Preservation Supporters:
I am proud to offer to America the second national
gathering of local preservation commissions.
The first FORUM was in Denver in 1998 and over 500 local
commissioners, staff and state Certified Local Government
Coordinators met and produced what has become known as the
"Local Government Manifesto." The mandate from those in
attendance was that the FORUM should be repeated i6 two years
and commission training should become a regular and ongoing
function of the National Preservation Partners. We were
listening! The sponsors of this FORUM and I would like to
invite you to FORUM 2000 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This FORUM will prove to be as innovative and educational as
the Denver event. We have added tours, social events and
resource material that will augment the highly praised group
participation format of the meeting. Just as in Denver,we will
have panel presentations that will be followed by facilitated
discussions to produce a set of findings. These findings will be
shared with all the participants in a series of plenary sessions. All
of the sessions findings will then be reported in a document to
help further the goals put forth in the"Local Government
o
Manifesto" from Denver.
Please come and join us in Pittsburgh.
Christopher Bowers
Chainnan
National Alliance of Preservation Commissions
