Crow, Director <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO : Local Historic District , Landmarks , and Preservation Commissions <br /> 'ROM : David Brook <br /> RE : Preservation Commission Training Workshops : June 16 , 2000 , in Charlotte <br /> June 17 , 2000 , in Sanford <br /> The State Historic Preservation Office , the Charlotte -Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission and <br /> the Sanford Historic Preservation Commission are pleased to announce two one-day training workshops <br /> for local preservation commissions to take place Friday , June 16 , in Charlotte and Saturday , June 17 , in <br /> Sanford . The programs will be similar each day . All commission members and staff are cordially invited <br /> to attend the workshop at the location that is more convenient . The registration brochure will be mailed <br /> in mid- April . <br /> The purpose of the workshops is to increase the skills and knowledge of commissions so they may offer <br /> the best possible service to their communities . The intensive one-day format offered at two locations is in <br /> l ' f single statewide conference this year and is designed to make the training more accessible to all <br /> lieu o a g y g g . <br /> members and staff. The program will begin about ten o ' clock and end mid-afternoon so that almost <br /> everyone can make it a day trip . <br /> The curriculum will center on the highly acclaimed training program developed by the National Alliance <br /> of Preservation Commissions . Pratt Cassity , executive director of the National Alliance and the <br /> nal. ion ' s foremost expert on the work of local commissions , will share his expertise in design basics and <br /> design review , legal issues , meeting procedures , and building public support . Dan Becker , National <br /> Alliance board member and executive director of the venerable Raleigh Historic Districts Commission , <br /> will bring the North Carolina perspective and offer the fruits of his fourteen years of experience , Pratt <br /> and Dan always receive high praise for their presentation skills and practical wisdom . A working lunch <br /> will include the latest on local , state , and federal activities . There will be a session on the tax credits and <br /> time for wroundtabling and learning from one another .
