eastern end of the St. Mary ' s Road near the county line will also be surveyed to gather
more information to help determine the final boundaries for the St. Mary' s district . An
intensive survey of the area south of St. Mary' s Road between it and Buckwater Creek
will determine if any of the "New" or "Old" eighteenth-century Trading Path remnants
are visible on the ground. Laboratory analysis of the resulting artifacts and features will
help identify the cultural affiliation, temporal periods, and spatial patterning of important
sites in the district. Each site will be assessed as to its eligibility for nomination to the
National Register of Historic Places based on its archaeological resources. This will
enhance the overall eligibility of the St . Mary' s Road Rural Historic District for
nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and/or as a local historic landmark .
II
I
i
I
i
53
