In that idea, it was noted that in the Chatwood/Duke
Forest area there is the Faucette Mill and the Old Trading Path as well . The HPC noted that something
should be done to preserve the area . Stancil reported that Jennifer Miller from SHPO indicated the HPC
could do a Local Landmark District based on her review of the HPC by- laws .
The HPC requested information on how to proceed with this idea noting that it must be done with the
willingness of the different owners . A suggestion was made for the landowners to approach the HPC with
an idea of what they would like done as being the first step . It was noted that Chatwood is already on the
LLD list .
The different pros and cons of design guidelines were discussed . It was suggested to find out what the
Town of Hillsborough has in place .
The HPC asked about the connection with the Land Legacy Program . Stancil explained there are six
sections for criteria for acquisitions, which are being folded into the LLP, including the criteria from the
HPC Historic Resource Evaluation Form .
The HPC discussed the northern part of the County relating the Little River Basin, noting there might .be
some good undeveloped natural areas for consideration . Stancil noted a probability of why few areas are
shown in the Natural Areas Inventory being due to much agriculture being done in the northern two
townships . From a natural resource and cultural standpoint there are several areas of significance .
AGENDA ITEM #8 : ADJOURNMENT
Rich moved to adjourn the meeting .
